Class Reflection

The first day of class listening to Professor Candia talk about she was going to read Beowulf  for the third time and how much boring that is going to be, is how I thought this class would be at first. Between my two colleges this is about my fifth version of a writing focused English course, considering I am not an English major anyone can see why  might be tired of reading literature and writing papers on it. I honestly see literature the same way I did coming into the class, as a portal to another time. Looking at a piece of work through the lenses of the author's period is basically the closest thing the human race has to a time machine.
This class gave me a chance to once again refine my writing skills under another professor. In my time at school all professors look for different elements in a paper and I feel like having to write for so many different professors that I have been able to build multiple writing styles to not only prove but strengthen the proof of my argument.
Since entering college three years ago, I have noticed that I have learned view literature through a different lenses then just the words on a page. There is a world of difference between my high school writing and reading abilities and now. That is why I am glad I got to re-read and enjoy many of the works I read In high school and get the opportunity to examine these works under this new lens I have developed. In five years from now I hope I have the time to read famous literature for fun, because it is an important area to gain knowledge and insights from.
